Vegging

I was too tired to write after a full day of hosting Easter, so I vegged in front of the TV last night (never happens). There was a new show on ABC called What About Brian? Did anyone watch this? Okay, if you didn’t, it’s about three couples and one single guy named Brian. Brian’s like the seventh wheel, a serial dater who has committment issues. Actually, he doesn’t have committment issues, he’s just in love with his best friend’s fiance – who he kissed and spilled his heart to in the first episode and then said he’d shut up … Read more »

Here’s Why I Don’t Plot

It’s no secret I’ve been stalled on the wip. I wrote the first part of the climax and haven’t been able to write more. Why? I wasn’t sure. I thought it was life getting in the way. I thought it was me just being tired. Last night I figured it out.

My bad guy is the wrong bad guy.

Well, Duh. That’s a no brainer!

I’ve known who my villain was from the start of this book. While I don’t plot, I’ve had this “idea” and could see the story play out in my mind (my version of plotting). I’ve … Read more »

A Few Things

Kristin Nelson‘s talking about the market on her blog. She’s currently in NY relaying what the editors there are saying is HOT right now. If you write (or want to write) erotica, it seems now is the time to break into the published author’s world. Seems the majority of the “first” sales I’m hearing about are erotica sales. One girl on RWC recently announced she sold her first ms in a 6-book deal to Kensington’s new Aphrodisia line. Too bad for me I write RS – sexy RS, but not sexy-enough to qualify as erotica.

In other news, I’m … Read more »

Piece of . . . Cake

Today was Gremlin #2’s birthday party. Just a small family deal – nothing big – and a couple friends. He picked an army theme (he’s four), because army dudes are cool and he loves to play army men with his dad. So I ordered his cake from the local grocery store. They *of course* didn’t have anything army-ish, but I gave the decorator one of his invitations and she assured me they could do something in camouflage colors and that they’d make four frosting mountains all over the cake so we could position army men on the top ourselves. Sounded … Read more »

Ramble Ramble

So Thursday after I blogged, gremlin #1 had a friend over to play. I was downstairs straightening up from gremlin #3 (also known as the little tornado) and glanced up the stairs and saw both girls were sitting on the bathroom counter. Actually, my daughter was sitting on the counter, the neighbor girl was standing on the counter behind her doing her hair. Ahem. Not good. I calmly tell them to get down, that we don’t get up on the counters for hair or anything else. I turn my back to chase the little tornado and not even thirty … Read more »

Back in the Land of the Living

Yes, I’m still alive. I’ve been out with the flu. Not fun. Can’t remember the last time I was so sick.

So, I didn’t get much writing done the past week, but once I was able to sit up straight without my head feeling like it was going to roll right off my body, I did do a little web surfing and came across a great quote. Since I have no exciting news to report, I’m going to leave you with this one special gem. (And my apologies – for the life of me, I can’t remember who said it … Read more »

Big News!

I’ve been out sick this week (hack, hack, moan, whine…) which is why I haven’t been around much (and no, Piper, apparantly it wasn’t the smoke at the restaurant the other night giving me that massive headache but the onset of the flu!). However, I’m pulling myself up to the computer long enough to congratulate my fabulous critique partner JOAN SWAN on finaling in the Golden Heart Romantic Suspense Category with her manuscript, Hiding In Plain Sight!

Way to go Joan!!!!!!!!!… Read more »

Ramblings on a Monday

I’m sick. Again. How is this possible? Seems I’ve been more sick this year then I was during my first year of teaching. ARGH. Sucks. I did drag myself to boot camp hell, er, my group power weight-lifting class though this morning. Of course, now I have no energy to do laundry. Wonder how the Gremlins would feel about wearing dirty underwear tomorrow…

Today’s my day to post over at Romance Worth Killing For. Check it out.

Gotta go proof a couple of submissions and think about the WIP. Must. Finish. Soon. (Gonna keep repeating that until it … Read more »

My Favorite Secondary Characters

I love secondary characters. They are the good stuff in a book. The best friend, the comic relief, the valley between the mountains, the tension relievers. My problem with secondary characters is that in my own work, they tend to try to take over. Case in point, the heroine of my current WIP was a secondary character in a previous book who I toned down in revisions of said earlier book. After that, I vowed never to write her story. I lost.

So in honor of my conniving heroine-who-used-to-be-a-secondary-character, I’m going to share some of my favorite secondary characters with … Read more »
