Coming Out Of My Deadline Cave…

…for a rant.

Okay, I was going to keep quiet on this topic, but I just can’t anymore.

I’m sick of politics. Wait, let me rephrase that. I’m sick of entertainers expounding their opinion on politics. If you are an entertainer – of any medium – your job is to entertain me. Period. Your job is not to sway me to your political viewpoint. I’m an adult. I have my own views. If I wanted to know yours, I’d ask. When I watch your movies or listen to your music or read your books, I want to be entertained. I … Read more »

I’m blogging today at The Bradford Bunch, Saturday, Sept. 20th, 2008. I’d love it if you stopped by and said hi! We’re chatting about hubbies and romance and all that good stuff. And since Sunday is my 17th anniversary, it just seemed fitting.

Hope to see you there!

The Call, Birthdays, Taglines & A Contest!!

Hodgepodge title, but that’s the way my brain is working these days. 😉

In case you’re interested, today I blogged about my reaction to getting the call at my chapter blog – the Mid-Willamette Valley RWA Blog. Stop by and say hi! I’d love to see you there.

My daughter’s 9th birthday is Monday, and tonight’s her big slumber party. The boys are going to a girlfriend’s house and I’m taking the band of pre-teens to see the Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus concert movie. Ay ya ya…wish me luck. There’s only so much Hannah Montana I can take. After that, … Read more »

Fin-ah-lly

It’s done! It’s gone! It’s finally out the door!

Zipped off The Book From Hades to my agent late last night. I probably should have waited until this morning, taken one quick look at it again but . . . I couldn’t. I was more than happy to get that thing good and gone. She may hate it, she may love it. Honestly, I really don’t care. While editing I remembered why I loved it, why I wrote it in the first place and I discovered I’m happy with the end product. And because of all that, I’m thrilled it’s … Read more »

Question

I spent all afternoon brainstorming a new book with my uber-cool mentor who, surprisingly, doesn’t think I’m nuts after she heard the twisted idea I’d come up with. (DH, on the other hand, cringes any time I bring it up.) I’m not going to tell you the idea – it is still in the brainstorming stage – but I have a question for you. What do you think of books with pregnant heroines? This is a single title RS, and while I’ve seen pregnant heroines in category books and ST contemporaries, I can’t remember the last time I read a … Read more »

10. Most Wanted Woman – Maggie Price
9. Duplicate Daughter – Alice Sharpe
8. Valley of Silence – Nora Roberts
7. The Hunt – Allison Brennan
6. Killer Curves – Roxanne

Counting My Blessings

Those who know me well know I’ve been a stress case lately because of writing stuff. Sometimes it seems there’s so much negative in this business to focus on, it can be all-consuming. I know I’ve had it on my mind a lot lately, letting it overshadow some of the good in my life. This morning I have a different perspective.

Those of you not living in the Pacific Northwest missed the mother of all wind-storms last night. Hurricane force winds in certain places. We have a large stand of old Douglas fir in the park behind our house. I … Read more »

Never Fear, Underdog Is Here

Okay, I’ll admit it. I’m a sucker for a good underdog story. Rudy, The Natural, The Rookie, Old School, Eight Below – all are underdog stories of one kind or another. This weekend we saw Stranger Than Fiction, which, if you haven’t seen it, I’m telling you to go watch. Writers will get a lot out of it most people won’t, and there were some hilarious situations only a writer could appreciate. But at the heart of this movie, it’s an underdog story – about one man who normally wouldn’t have any reason to do something … Read more »

Holiday Buzzzzzzzz

Maybe it’s because the WIP is still kicking my butt – I thought I’d made a break-through, was super excited with the new direction, and now am worried it might be too similar to the other proposal I recently finished (at least initially). Maybe it’s because last night I spent some time online reading author blogs and ingested all the stress and worry over deadlines and proposals and fear of success (Yeah, Lisa told me not to do that again). And maybe my anxiety is just related to the fact publishing has to be the slowest industry in the world. … Read more »
